Maple Oat Bread

After my last post (wow, almost a month ago now) I realized that I lied to the tens of my readers. I actually did bake something in the time between Christmas and that post. I had just completely forgotten. And not for any good reason, this was an excellent recipe that delivered in pretty much every way you could want a maple oatmeal bread to deliver. I mean, I'm writing a post about it, so that must mean something.

Eggnog Bread

This is one of those recipes that I wanted to make as soon as I saw it. Oddly enough I've enjoyed eggnog since I was a kid, and it has always been one of my favourite things at Christmas. The fact that you can only get it once a year makes it even more appealing (I remember when Pumpkin Pie was that way too). It's probably also responsible for my long standing love affair with nutmeg.

The problem with eggnog of course is that it is so rich, which is reflected in that little nutrition guide on the side of the carton; especially the eggnog that I like. This usually means that when I buy some, it doesn't get finished, which makes this recipe perfect for all that eggnog leftover after Christmas celebrations.

Cinnamon Apple Bread

I've never really considered food as seasonal. There are certain foods that I associate with certain times and they're special because of it. However, that doesn't mean that I don't want to eat them at other times of the year or I would enjoy them any less. Maybe it's because I’ve never paid attention to what foods are typically available at what times or, more likely, because I can get anything I want at anytime. To me the idea of “seasonal” food is a little outdated, if I want fall food in the summer I’m going to have it, and I did; and it was delicious.

Ginger Pumpkin Bread

I've had a ginger craving for some time now. This was perhaps brought on by the lack of gingerbread cookies at Christmas. I'm not going to say exactly why there were no gingerbread cookies, but let's just say that a certain someone for Christmas Eve dinner, maybe a cousin; who typically makes gingerbread, failed to bring some for her family even though she already had it made. I don't want to get any more specific than that, this is hardly the place, but you know who you are :P :). Cravings aside, I also love pumpkin bread, so when you find a recipe like this in your bookmarks it's like Christmas all over again. You know, Christmas without the need to hold back tears due to the painful realization of no gingerbread (perhaps I'm laying it on too thick? :)).

Cranberry Poppy Seed Loaf

I put a lot of thought into this recipe because I was making it in honour of Remembrance Day. I actually came up with the the idea weeks before hand and though I probably wasn't treading new ground representing Remembrance Day with the red of cranberries and poppy seeds, I was nonetheless excited about it. An added bonus was that these flavours are quite seasonal.

Sweet Potato Bread

As soon as I saw this recipe I knew that I would have to make it and quick. After my experience with sweet potato pie the idea of sweet potato bread just sounded too fantastic to pass up. I mean what would it taste like? For some reason sweet potato bread sounded more like a dinner appetizer than a dessert or something paired with coffee. I just couldn't wrap my head around it (shock!). Thankfully, it would only be a few short days until I found out.

Cornbread

Cornbread, since I've started baking, has been my biggest venture. I know right, cornbread? It's so simple, it's so easy why such a big deal? True, it is simple and it is easy, but I couldn't find a recipe that was exactly what I wanted. This meant I needed to experiment. Four weeks and eight attempts later, I finally have it, for now :).

Pumpkin Bread

As of this writing I have successfully made this pumpkin bread twice.  Once to use up some leftover fresh puree and once this past Thanksgiving weekend, using canned puree.  Neither time disappointed.  This recipe is beyond excellent and ridiculously quick to put together.

Banana Bread Tease

I'm on vacation for the next week, and something I enjoy doing is heading up to the cottage to spend time with my Grandparents. I consider Banana Bread a speciality of mine and wanted to bring some up with me. You see, I love Banana Bread. I have turned making it into a science. I could probably put it together in my sleep and I have a pretty precise way of doing it.

I realized the other day that the first time I remember being conscious of my love for Banana Bread was actually at the cottage. I just remember eating it, knowing I had enjoyed it previously, but this is when I first recall vocalizing how much I enjoyed it. I can't for the life of me remember who I was told made it, I just know that it wasn't my Grandmother. The details are not important it's just a nice memory of a simple yet amazingly delicious cake in bread's clothing.
