Happy "Blirthday" to Me

It's blirthday number two today. Over the weekend I celebrated the occasion with a small chocolate banana cake topped with my favourite pb frosting. And in typical "Adam" fashion I completely obliterated the original recipe, but I'll talk more about that later in the week.

This being a rather special day in a young bloggers life, there are a few things I would like to say.

First, I want to start by thanking those who actually read what I write. There aren't many of you but it means something that you're willing to take time out of your day to read this nonsense. Although I write what I write, and bake what I bake for myself, it helps to know that people actually care enough to read. On the days that I really don't feel like clicking the update button you're the ones that keep me going.

This has been especially true over the last year where my attention has been drawn elsewhere with some major personal changes; the biggest of which being the move into my own home. And though the moving part was smooth, the overall adjustment has been pretty rough. I lived with my family for thirty years and the transition to an empty house is quite jarring. Sometimes the quiet alone is enough to drive you crazy (thankfully the voices rarely stop :)). Don't get me wrong there are plenty of things that I enjoy about my house (the fact that it's "my house"... not to mention my kitchen is awesome), but you rarely have to adjust to the good things; good things have a tendency not to weigh on your mind.

When this is combined with the stress of work and a few other personal things, what you get is a loss of focus, which I believe has lead to a dip in the quality of what I do here. It's for this reason that I want to refocus and concentrate on posting more, baking more, and making things more personal; something which I feel has been lost in the last few months especially.

However, I do believe that I am a stronger baker now then a year ago. I have managed to develop some interesting recipes as well as some crazy adaptations. And I think that in a small way I have contributed to this terrific blogging community.

With all that in mind it's kind of appropriate that last week I managed to buy my blog a gift (no that's not a typo :)). I am now the proud owner of thebakersnuts.com. It wasn't available two years ago, and when the owner (who had the domain parked) finally let it lapse I scooped it up as quickly as I could. I will probably keep the .ca as my primary address (I like being distinctly Canadian) but having the .com feels like I've put my big boy pants on :).

So thanks to everyone who reads, thanks to everyone just looking for a recipe; and thanks to my family and friends for constantly being my guinea pigs.

Here begins year three of The Baker's Nuts. If you haven't figure it out by now...
